About

Welcome to my website.

I am a former New York City Public High School History teacher and I served in the US Army before that. Currently, I’m retired from the NYC Department of Education after 31 years of service.

The idea for this website and it’s original incarnation (2000) was developed by former students of mine. These wonderful webmasters, however, graduated in June ’02 and left me holding the ‘tech bag’. This is the most recent of numerous revisions since the site’s inception. Today, it has been repurposed for the musings that I’ve entertained for years but only now can express in text.

The site underwent a massive upgrade in form and function during September 2001. Our school building had to be evacuated during the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and we took refuge at our sister school, Brooklyn Technical High School. Thankfully, all website alterations since were motivated by benign reasons, as in this instance. I’ll continue to tweak the website’s structure as I add new posts. For now, a significant portion of the content I presented in class has been archived but remains accessible to former and new students. Since my interests lean significantly toward US History, I’m committed to maintaining (updating) a portion of that content. Content from my World History courses has been mothballed and is no longer accessible to the general public. The site’s name hasn’t eluded change either. The former name, “World History Review”, has been discarded and replaced with “US Citizenship”. Along with that name change is a switch in my moniker from “Mr.V” to “Publius”. The former is what students used when referring to me during my teaching career. The later is what I’ll be using in the site’s latest incarnation whenever you and I communicate.

All elements of this site, minus the professional and academic values upon which it is founded, are subject to modification. Such modifications will be driven by academic requirements, your needs, and the technology at hand. What will never change is my quest to thoughtfully debate my role as a citizen before you. Your thoughtful comments can be a vehicle of change for the site and for me.
